Automatic QR-bill on every Swiss invoice
Every invoice in Swiss francs ships with a ready-to-pay QR-bill — the reference is computed and validated before the invoice is even saved.
- QRR reference generated automatically from QR-IBAN accounts, with the check digit computed per the official algorithm.
- SCOR reference (ISO 11649, starting with “RF”) for regular-IBAN accounts, or no reference at all (NON) when none is needed.
- Blocks invalid combinations before saving — QRR is only accepted with a QR-IBAN account and CHF, per SIX v2.4.
QR-IBAN or regular IBAN: which payment reference goes with which account
The QR payment part replaced the old orange and red payment slips, which stopped being accepted on 30 September 2022. The QR code carries the account, the amount, the currency, both addresses and a reference — and that reference is what tells the bank, and your system, which invoice was paid.
The account decides the reference. A QR-IBAN is recognised by digits 5 to 9, between 30000 and 31999, and only accepts the QR reference (QRR): 27 digits, the last of which is a check digit. A regular IBAN uses the SCOR creditor reference from ISO 11649, which starts with “RF” and runs to at most 25 characters — or no reference at all.
- QR-IBAN with a QRR reference, always in Swiss francs (a rule of version 2.4 of the SIX guidelines).
- Regular IBAN with a SCOR reference, in francs or euros.
- Regular IBAN without a reference (NON): allowed, but the payment arrives with nothing that links it to the invoice on its own.
How Megorix builds the QR payment part of an invoice
There is no separate QR-bill step: it comes from data the invoice already holds.
- 1
You register the bank account once. Megorix identifies a QR-IBAN from the number itself, not from a manually ticked option that can end up wrong.
- 2
On the invoice you pick the account: with a QR-IBAN the reference is fixed to QRR; with a regular IBAN you choose SCOR or no reference.
- 3
On saving, the QRR reference is computed with its check digit (recursive modulo 10). Combinations the bank would reject — QRR without a QR-IBAN, QRR outside francs, a QR-IBAN with SCOR — never get saved.
- 4
On issuing, everything is checked again, and the PDF carries the receipt, the payment part and the QR code with the Swiss cross, at the size the standard sets, plus the scissors cut line.
- 5
When the payment arrives, the same reference comes back in the bank file and bank reconciliation finds the invoice on its own.
QR-bill mistakes that make a bank reject or delay a payment
Most problems don't show on the printed invoice: they surface when the customer scans the code or when money arrives without a reference.
- 1
A QRR reference on a regular-IBAN account, or SCOR on a QR-IBAN account — Megorix won't save it.
- 2
Addresses written on a single line: since November 2025 only structured addresses are accepted, with street, number, postcode and town in their own fields — which is how Megorix stores them.
- 3
A check digit copied by hand with one digit wrong — the QRR is always computed by the system.
- 4
A QR code printed too small, or without the Swiss cross the standard requires.
- 5
A payment slip on a credit note, asking the customer to pay again — in Megorix, credit notes carry no slip.
QR-bills in francs and euros, for Swiss and Liechtenstein businesses
The QR-bill works in the two currencies the standard allows: Swiss francs and euros. A euro invoice goes out from a euro account with a regular IBAN, with a SCOR reference or none; Megorix refuses to issue if the account's currency differs from the document's, because the bank would have to convert the payment.
It is for businesses based in Switzerland or Liechtenstein, the two countries the company profile accepts as issuer. The slip's wording — “Zahlteil”, “Section paiement”, “Sezione pagamento” or “Payment part” — follows the invoice language when that is German, French, Italian or English.
Common questions about the Swiss QR-bill
In Megorix, every invoice with a payment slip builds its QR payment part from the document's own data: the QRR reference is computed for you, and the combination of account, reference and currency is checked before saving.
Megorix includes QR-bill generation and validation per the SIX v2.4 standard, with no extra setup required.
Yes. The QRR reference is computed with its check digit the moment the invoice is saved, and the combination of reference, account and currency is checked on saving and again on issuing.
It is the invoice with a payment part and Swiss QR code, defined by SIX for Swiss banks. The orange and red payment slips stopped being accepted on 30 September 2022; since then, anyone who wants to be paid by slip uses the QR-bill.
The QRR has 27 digits and only works with a QR-IBAN and in francs; SCOR is the international ISO 11649 reference, starts with “RF” and is used with a regular IBAN. Both let the payment be matched to the invoice automatically.
From digits 5 to 9 of the IBAN: if they fall between 30000 and 31999, it is a QR-IBAN. Banks issue it alongside the regular IBAN of the same account, and Megorix recognises it from the number itself.
Yes. The PDF Megorix produces carries the full slip, and the customer pays by scanning the code in their banking app; on paper, the cut line shows where to detach the slip.
